Student Automobiles

    Policy 4610, Adopted August 5, 2008

    Operating and parking vehicles on the Mount Airy campus is a privilege that carries with it certain responsibilities. The parking regulations listed below are in effect each school day from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Any accident on the school campus that involves a motor vehicle must be reported to the office immediately. Student drivers are expected to obey the following rules:

    1. A parking permit must be obtained from the assistant principal for $20.00 by the second week of school with the following information: make, model, year, color, license number of the motor vehicle. This permit is to be displayed on the rear view mirror each day the vehicle enters the school parking lot.

    2. The speed limit in the school parking lot shall be ten (10) miles per hour. Careless and/or reckless driving will not be tolerated in the school parking lot. (Immediate loss of parking privilege)

  1. In order to ensure a safer entry way for buses in the mornings and afternoons, all student drivers are asked to enter and exit through the lower gate at the football field. No students should enter the main gate in the mornings from 7:00 – 8:20 a.m. or leave through the main gate in the afternoons from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.

  2. Motor vehicles must be parked in the designated parking areas immediately upon arrival at school. Cars are not to be moved during the school day without written permission from the office. Students are not to sit in cars or be in the parking lot area at any time during the school day without written permission from a teacher or administrator.

  3. Remaining in parked automobiles on the school campus is prohibited. Students who arrive on campus by automobile should leave the vehicle immediately after parking and come to the commons area or lunchroom until the bell rings for students to enter the building for first period.

  4. Students are to park in the designated student parking areas.

  5. Students using more than one space to park, or parking in an unsafe manner will be in violation of parking


  6. A failure to properly display the parking permit on the rear view mirror (7:00 a.m./4:00 p.m.) is a violation.

    EXCEPTION: If a student forgets or drives another vehicle without a permit, they must park in the parking lot behind the press box at the football field (In the designated area) to avoid a parking fine.

Violations of the above rules (#6, #7, #8) will be subject to the following consequences: All parking violations are subject to a $25.00 fine.

(Fines must be paid in the office within Five (5) school days or the student will lose parking privileges and parking permit.)

  1. If the vehicle is operated and/or parked in the parking lot after parking privileges for that student has been

    suspended by the principal or his designee, the car may be towed away at owner’s expense.

  2. If reasonable suspicion exists, any car may be inspected at any time by school authorities while parked on

    school grounds.
