 About the Courses
 
Health Careers 
This introductory course is designed by Paxton/Patterson and consists of a computer-based, modular, hands-on exploration of various health careers to include clinical lab practices, veterinary medicine, EMT, pharmacology, speech therapy, nursing, and mental health.
 
Health Science I 
Health Science I is basically an Anatomy, Physiology and Disease class. What makes Health Science I unique to the learner is that it is taught by a Registered Nurse who is well versed in patient care of the patients who have the disorders of the body systems being studied. This course is excellent for anyone interested in any type of healthcare career ranging from forensic or veterinary medicine to athletic training pediatrics or physical therapy and beyond. 
 
Health Science II 
This course brings all the things that have been learned in the lower level courses together and expands upon them. The student gets hands-on experience with skills training from multiple healthcare profession areas and has the opportunity to become certified in American Heart Association Healthcare Professional CPR and First Aid and OSHA Healthcare Certifications while in this class. The students gets to prepare a resume' and participate a mock-interview to prepare them for the real-world of job seeking. This course is a requirement for acceptance into the Nurse Aide certification course (Nursing Fundamentals) and Pharmacy Technician. 
 
Nursing Fundamentals
 This course is a state certified requirement for individuals who wish to become a Certified Nurse Aide/ Assistant-I. The class includes 12 weeks of class and lab instruction delivered by a state of NC approved Registered Nurse instructor and 6 weeks of onsite "real patient contact" clinical experience. Upon successful completion of the course individuals may sit for the NC CNA-I certification exam. This is an invaluable opportunity for anyone who thinks they want to go into healthcare to learn basic patient care skills that are required for many career paths. Nurse Aide/Assistant-I certification is a pre-requisite for many healthcare option educational pathways such as registered nurse, physical therapy assistant and physician assistant.
