Reyes Band Signing

------

On Friday, May 21, a Mount Airy High School senior band member signed to continue his musical career at the collegiate level. Isaac Reyes was surrounded by family, friends, fellow band members, and teachers. Reyes will be attending Campbell University majoring in Music Education where he will be a part of the marching and concert bands.  In Mount Airy City Schools, he has been in the marching and concert bands for 8 years earning merit and performance scholarships.  He has served as the president of the Mount Airy Marching Band and also served as an intern and teaching assistant for the Mount Airy Middle School band for the past two years. Most recently, he was awarded the Vincent Puckett Kindness Award and Scholarship. Reyes is also a first-generation college student in his family.

Reyes expressed, “Music saved me and made me the person I am today, music is what gives my life purpose.  I cannot wait to see what is next for me at Campbell.”

Band Director Jonathan Jones has had three students in his years at MAHS sign to continue their band career at the collegiate level. Jones noted, “Isaac is a hard-working and caring student.  He is a talented musician but continues to work to improve his skills.  He is respected by his peers and the younger students. He is always willing to help younger ones with a problem they may have.”

Campbell University trumpet professor Dr. Christian McIvor attended Reyes’ signing and was excited to have Reyes join the program. He stated, “At Campbell, I enjoy being part of a student-centered program where the faculty deeply cares about the holistic development of every student, as a musician and as a person.

We have an extremely positive and motivated culture in our band program, which is consistently growing. All students are invited to participate, and we have scholarships available for music majors and non-majors. Students have opportunities to play in many different types of ensembles, including concert bands, marching and athletic bands, jazz bands, and chamber ensembles, and private instruction is available to all students.

We are very fortunate to have students like Isaac coming to take advantage of all our program has to offer while becoming equipped for future success. I’m extremely excited to begin working with him in the fall!”
