Scholarship Tips
-You should not have to pay to submit a scholarship application.
-Check this page often. It is updated regularly.
-The FAFSA is most often a student's main source of financial aid, and required for some scholarships.
-Do not wait until the last minute to submit scholarship applications.  Many portals close before midnight on the due date.
-Have someone you trust look over your scholarship applications before you submit them.
-Many colleges have their own application or online portal for internal scholarships. Check the procedures at each college you apply to.

Criteria: Juniors and seniors can earn scholarships by completing steps to prepare for college.

Next NC Scholarship
Criteria: Seniors will qualify for this scholarship if they are eligible for in-state tuition, plan to enroll at an NC community college or UNC system university, live in a household with an Adjusted Gross Income of $80,000 or less, and submit a FAFSA before priority deadlines.
Amount: $3,000-$5,000/year

NC Reach Grant and Education Training Vouchers
Criteria: Seniors who are currently or were formerly in foster care may apply for funding to attend a public community college or university in NC or to earn a technical certification.

Foundation for Rural Services Scholarships

Criteria: Seniors who live in a home served by Surry Communications, are US citizens, and express an interest in returning to a rural community following graduation from a 2 or 4-year college or university may apply for this scholarship.

Amount: $1,000-$9,000

Matthew C. Graziadei Scholarship

Criteria: Any senior with a disability may apply for this scholarship, which may be used for any postsecondary experience, including college, employment expenses, independent living, pursuing hobbies, or purchasing assistive technology or other equipment.

Amount: $1,500

Siemens Energy Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who plan to enroll at Surry Community College or Forsyth Tech, pursue a career in manufacturing, machining, or a related field, and have a 3.0+ weighted or 2.5+ unweighted GPA may apply for this scholarship.

Amount: $2,500

State Employees' Credit Union "People Helping People" Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who are members or children of members of the State Employees' Credit Union, who have at least a 2.5 unweighted GPA, who are eligible for in-state tuition, and who plan to attend one of the 16 UNC system universities may apply for this scholarship. Golden LEAF Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who are NC residents, plan to enroll in a participating NC university, community college, or Workforce Continuing Education program, have a 2.5+ GPA, have an SAI of 15,000 or less as determined by the FAFSA, and are able to communicate a commitment to return to rural NC after graduating from college may apply for this scholarship.

Amount: Up to $14,000

Criteria: Seniors who plan to attend NC State University, UNC Chapel Hill, or UNC Greensboro and demonstrate financial need may apply for this scholarship.

Criteria: Seniors who plan to pursue a degree in education, have an ACT Composite score between 20 and 24 or an SAT score between 990 and 1130, an unweighted GPA between 2.5 and 3.5, and who exhibit good character, service, and leadership may apply for this scholarship.

Bridgette Bouldin Hiatt #4 Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Senior female multi-sport athletes who have a 3.5+ GPA may apply for this scholarship. To apply, students should submit the following items to Mrs. Henson or to [email protected]:

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A resumé
  • An essay on how you manage being a student-athlete and why you are a good candidate for this scholarship
  • A yearbook-style photo

Amount: $6,000

Hugh Chatham Health Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who plan to attend an accredited college or university with the intentions of majoring in a medical field may apply for this scholarship.

Robin Hardy Hodgin Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who plan to pursue a career in nursing or allied health may apply for this scholarship. Preference will be given to students who plan to attend a local community college and utilize their skills to serve at Northern Regional Hospital.

Amount: $5,000

Surry County Retired School Personnel Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who demonstrate character, academic promise, and financial need, and who plan to attend Surry Community College may apply for this scholarship.

Amount: $1,200

Whitlow-Osborne Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who plan to enter into an Emergency Services curriculum may apply for this scholarship.

Surry County Farm Bureau Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who have at least a 2.5 GPA and intend to pursue a career in an agriculture-related career may apply for this scholarship.

Jerrald William Mitchell Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who are college-bound, have a 2.5+ GPA, and participate in athletics may apply for this scholarship. To apply, students should submit an essay that describes their personal background, achievements, community service, future plans, and career goals to Mrs. Henson.

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: April 1, 2026

 

 

Alpha Theta Grant-in-Aid

Criteria: Seniors who plan to pursue a degree in Education may apply for this scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Surry Arts Council Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors who are Surry County residents and plan to pursue a college degree in the Arts may apply for this scholarship. Each applicant must attend an audition on Wednesday, May 27th.
