Scholarships

- Check this page often. It is updated regularly!
- The FAFSA is most often a student's main source of financial aid, and required for some scholarships.
- Do not wait until the last minute to submit scholarship applications. Many portals close before midnight on the day they're due.
- Have someone you trust look over your scholarship applications before you submit them.
- Many colleges have their own application or online portal for internal scholarships. Check the procedures at each college you apply to.
Scholarships
Martha L. Joyce Scholarship
Criteria: High school seniors who are African-American, reside in Surry County, and who plan to attend a 2- or 4-year college or university may apply for this scholarship.
Amount: Varies
Deadline: April 15, 2024

WKBC Scholarship
Criteria: High school seniors who plan to enroll in college full-time to study broadcasting, marketing, advertising, or a related field may apply for this scholarship.
Amount: $5,000
Deadline: April 19, 2024
Application can be picked up in the Bear Cave.
Alpha Theta Scholarship
Criteria: High school seniors who intend to major in education at a 2-year or 4-year college or university may apply for this scholarship.
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: April 30, 2024

North Carolina Home Builders Scholarship
Criteria: High school seniors who plan to enter a skilled trade program in the residential construction industry (i.e. carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc.) may apply for this scholarship.
Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: April 30, 2024

North Carolina Criminal Justice Fellows Program
Criteria: High school seniors who plan to obtain an associate's degree in Criminal Justice at a NC community college, and work for at least 4 years in a qualifying position in NC can apply for this program.
Amount: A fully forgivable loan covering 100% of the degree

Surry County Farm Bureau Scholarship
Criteria: High school seniors who plan to pursue a career in agriculture or a related field may apply for this scholarship.
Amount: $1,000/year

National Association of University Women (Mount Airy/Surry County Branch) Scholarship
Criteria: Female seniors who plan to enroll at an accredited 4-year university in the Fall of 2024 and who demonstrate financial need may apply for this scholarship.
Amount: $500

Frontier Natural Gas Scholarship
Criteria: High school seniors who plan to study science, business, or engineering in college may apply for this scholarship.

Criteria: College-bound students with an interest in the visual or performing arts may apply for this scholarship.
